OMB Proposed Revision to the Uniform Guidance
On May 29, 2026, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) published a proposed rule in the Federal Register (Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance) that would substantially revise the government-wide regulations governing federal financial assistance, including the Uniform Guidance in 2 CFR Part 200. OMB is actively seeking public feedback on these changes during a 45-day comment period. OMB intends to issue a final rule that becomes effective by October 1, 2026, to apply to new federal awards made in fiscal year 2027.
George Mason is reviewing the proposed changes and coordinating efforts with other universities and associations such as COGR and APLU. Updates will be communicated to the George Mason research community as new information becomes available. Email questions to Mike Laskofski.
